Our Classes
One-on-one instruction: That’s right, just you and your teacher. There is no better way to learn a language than to have customized one-on-one classes accompanying the total immersion experience.

Flexible schedule: Classes are held from Monday to Friday and last four, five or six hours each. You may choose to have either morning or afternoon classes. Morning classes begin at 8:00am and afternoon classes begin at 2:00pm.

Personalized classes: Upon arrival, your teacher will assess your Spanish level orally and if necessary, with a written exam. After this assessment, your teacher will be able to further personalize your curriculum depending on your abilities, interests and goals.

Teaching methods: To make the learning process as easy and enjoyable as possible, our teachers employ a variety of effective teaching methods. Such methods may include written and oral exercises, structured and unstructured conversations, formal lectures, comprehension of Latino film and music, board games, etc.

We offer the following programs:
  • Intensive Spanish
  • Medical Spanish
  • Spanish for Social Work
  • Business Spanish
  • Legal Spanish
  • Spanish for Travelers
  • Spanish for Children
  • Latin American Literature
  • Latin American History
  • Writing & Composition
  • Intensive K’iche’
  • Intensive Mam
  • Intensive Jalkaltek
  • Other programs may be designed upon inquiry

 Our Families
The greatest experience for many students is that which is shared with their host-families. By opting to live with a host-family, you’ll have the opportunity to truly complete your total immersion experience. Host-families provide a relaxed, caring environment in which you can comfortably improve your Spanish. By participating in the daily life of a middle-class Guatemalan family, you’ll have a better understanding and appreciation of life in another culture.

Our host families will provide you with a private room, three meals a day/six days a week, clean drinking water and a hot shower. Here at CBA, we like give our families the chance to enjoy a day to themselves (Sundays). That being said, you’ll still have all the access and privileges that you’d normally have, just without the obligation for the family to prepare you three meals on Sundays (oftentimes, they still do).

It is not required to live with a family in order to attend CBA; however, it is highly recommended.

If you have any questions whatsoever about special living accommodations or alternate living arrangements (apartment, hostel, etc.), please feel free to contact us. We understand that some students have special needs and/or preferences, and we’re here to help.

Our Teachers
All of our teachers are carefully handpicked based upon a multitude of meticulous requirements. They’re certified for teaching Spanish as a second language by the University of San Carlos, the Ministry of Education, the Institute of Tourism, the Technical Institute of Training and Productivity (INTECAP) and the Association of Spanish Schools of Quetzaltenango. Additionally, many of our teachers are obtaining advanced degrees and we take this into consideration when customizing your program (i.e. designating a Spanish teacher that’s finishing law school with a student studying legal Spanish).
